Finders Keepers!
Hey peeps, I'm thrilled (and somewhat daunted) to announce that I'm having a stall at the next Finders Keepers here in Melbs! Dates are Friday 4th and Saturday 5th October to be precise.
This is the reason I've been making like a mofo, with huge to-do lists every day of the week, including the evenings. Things always take a bit longer than I'd like, but it's all coming together, slowly but surely.
If you're following me on Insta @emblueski there are a lot of updates on what I'm making, and I promise to be more regular with blog updates too. On the menu today are Baby Sneakers, they are so darn cute, very fiddly but very satisfying. I'll blog those during the week.
Enjoy the spring sunshine!

Phew!
It'll be interesting to see so many makers, especially as I have been a bit of a hermit of late, I have a few different projects on the go which I hope to work on during this event.
I am rather excited to be paired with the magnificent Maryanne Talia Pau, she is so inspiring and her work knocks my wintry socks off. We are cooking up a feast, and will be working together for a while this year, so come and visit us at the Exhibition Building.

Wordy

Had me a bit of exposure late last week on Craft Vic's blog.
If any of you managed to pick up the fold-out catalogue that accompanies Shoe Show, I'll have you know that my text, at least, is an abridged version. I am a bit of a verbose type, especially when talking about this fine craft of shoemaking which I practice, and so the original 1000 words I gave poor Kim and Nella turned into 300 or so for the catalogue.
Anyway the whole piece is over at the CV blog, including images taken by Richard Brockett of me and my studio. I love my studio! Making a big mess in there this week, lots of belts on the make, an annoying fabric detour, and my glue stick combined with a lot of Christmas postage stamps. I'll show you when it's all done........

Shoe Show
Finally!
After months of making, the 'Shoe Show' opens this Thursday. There are six shoemakers in total, and seeing as I have been cloistered away with my own pieces for months, it will be refreshing to look upon new work.

I'll be the one wearing these, the most girly shoes I have ever made for myself! I do love the opportunity to dress up, and I won't be able to wear heels for much longer, with all the bulging I'll be doing.

My new project - due in April
Et voila.Without sounding like a press release, this is the reason for my loss of mojo, the recent malaise, the rather constant nausea.
I do apologise for being a slack friend to many during recent weeks, with all the work for the Shoe Show, and this little babe, all I have been able to do is some vague tinkering, lots of sleeping, and trying to keep my food down.
I'm welcoming the supposed glow and surplus energy that the fabled second trimester brings, I'm hoping to get back into cooking, visit my long lost pals at capoeira, and catch up with some lovelies who I have been missing.
Enjoy your weekend!

On My Desk

The desk I have mainly used in the past few days is the computer table in the house.
I've been madly finishing an application for Artisan's Cherish Showcase, which will at their retail space (m)art in Brisbane in the lead up to Christmas.
So I've been finessing the CV, writing Artist's Statements, taking up-to-date photos, including this one, of my Dahlia Brooches.
They are made from crocheted leather thonging, and are so robust that I can only make about three at a time, I get a bit of RSI in the ol' wrist!

Making and doing

It's official, Craft Vic have released their program for this fest of making!
Here's a blurb from the website:
'A Month About Making is a festival of public events, workshops, residencies, exhibitions and forums focusing on the practical and conceptual elements of making, inherent in craft and design. Throughout August, A Month About Making will explore current trends in craft and design practice, professional development opportunities for practitioners, contemporary craft and design philosophy and writing, and the place for 'making' within creative and cultural industries.'
Phew, it's going to be jam-packed full of interesting practitioners, and here's where I blow my trumpet, I'm doing a week-long residency there from Aug 26 - 30. Will include more details soon, at the moment I'm meant to be in the studio finishing off my entry for the In the Making exhibition.
For the full program of events, click on the Craft Vic link here, or the Month about Making logo in the sidebar.
