hmmm maybe they make them on a machine? it doesnt seem worth it, considering the mark up that most places put on things. it would be interesting to trace these back to the source!
I've looked closely at them before, too. As a crocheter, I know you can't even buy the yarn hardly for that price! Most people can't appreciate the work that went into making those. They will probably be in the "As-Is" section for even cheaper in a few months. Too bad.
I'm with you, Emma. And yet we're all part of it -- I was thinking of going to Ikea today. It's particularly jarring when we recognize something dirt cheap made using a specific skill that we recognize/share. I think that's partly why we're so mad for cooking shows -- because in the western world we have lost so many other handmaking skills.
It just makes me a bit wild...I had a mini fairly mild rant recently. It just really does my head in, for all sorts of reasons. And wow you make shoes!! Gawd your clever!! :)

I have kind of a different outlooks on this article. I agree with the author but some points I have different views on.

I wonder if it's a case of workers getting paid pennies for something they should be paid a fair wage for. I'm a crocheter and realize their worth.
